By the age of five, children have a better understanding of instructions, begin to plan their moves and develop a sense of cooperation. This is the age when play shifts from free exploration to structured fun with a clear objective. Board games are therefore a wonderful way for children to practise patience, concentration and decision-making skills through play.
Children of this age love to compete, but they also quickly get excited about team spirit. It is important to provide them with an experience where they can taste victory, but also learn that defeat is not the end of the world. It is through play that they learn emotional balance and communication – how to encourage others, accept the rules and enjoy the process.
Through board games, children strengthen their memory, recognise patterns and develop logical thinking. At the same time, the bond with their parents is strengthened, as playing together brings laughter, closeness and a sense of security. Five-year-olds need games that encourage them to explore without overwhelming them – the right balance between fun and learning.
