Spletke – a strategy game of building and intrigue in a medieval worldIn Spletke, you take on the role of a medieval lord striving to complete your city before one of your opponents does. You build different districts and expand your influence, while keeping good relations with the nobility, the church, merchants and other key figures who will affect your progress.
How do you play?
Every round of the game is different, as players choose a new role to play each time. Various powers and abilities are available to help you build your city, but also to sabotage your opponents. The characters you can take on include the assassin, thief, magician, king, bishop, merchant, architect and warlord – each offering a unique ability to help you win.
- Assassin – you kill an opponent's character card and shut them out of the round.
- Thief – you steal gold coins from another player, making it harder for them to keep building.
- Magician – you swap cards with another player.
- King – you earn first choice in the next round.
- Merchant – you receive an extra gold coin for your building.
- Architect – you build an extra building in your city.
- Warlord – you destroy buildings in an opponent's city.
- Bishop – you are protected from the warlord and have an advantage in building religious buildings.
Buildings and special powers
Not only must you choose the right role, you must also strategically construct buildings that match your characters. The bishop will be delighted by religious buildings, the merchant rewarded for markets and taverns, the warlord for military buildings and the king for palaces and castles. The game changes from round to round, as you place one or two buildings each time and then draw new cards for the next round.
End of the game
The game ends when one player successfully completes the seventh building in their city. The winner is whoever has the most valuable buildings in their citadel at the end.
