Dive into the hustle and bustle of life on Catan – become the prince or princess of Catan and decide the fate of its settlers. Besides settlements, roads and cities, you also construct buildings where your subjects work, hire heroes who make life difficult for your opponent, and build ships to speed up trade.In CATAN Duel you build your principality with cards. Each player starts with a small principality made up of two settlement cards connected by a road card.Each settlement is diagonally adjacent to a region card. Each of you has 6 regions where – if the dice roll is favourable – you can collect resources such as wood, brick and ore, just like in the board game CATAN.Each settlement is worth 1 victory point, and if you upgrade a settlement to a city, you get another victory point. The simple introductory game, The First Catanians, takes about 30 minutes and is played only with the cards of the basic set. The first player to reach 7 (or more) victory points wins the game.Simply using the resources you gain to build roads and settlements or to upgrade settlements to cities won't be enough to win. It is also important to place heroes, buildings and trade ships above and below your settlements and cities, as these cards matter in the competition for the trade advantage and the strength advantage, which give you extra victory points and pave the way to victory.Once you've mastered the introductory game, new challenges await you in the three theme sets of Rivals for CATAN. Each theme set takes about 40 to 60 minutes and is played together with the cards of the basic set, which you will know by then.In the Era of Gold set, the fight for the trade advantage becomes more intense, and the resource "gold" gains importance with new buildings. In the Era of Turmoil, traitors, archers and arsonists sharpen the competition between you and your opponent. The Era of Progress set is calmer again. If you rely on the University, cards such as the Three-Field System or Mineral Mining let you enjoy the fruits of progress and leave your opponent behind.The English title of the game is Rivals for Catan.
