Description
Set off on new adventures in Catan!
The
Traders and Barbarians expansion brings five exciting scenarios and several rule variations that will turn every game of Catan into a new adventure.Sail to the rich fishing grounds along the coast and the newly discovered lake, build bridges across Catan’s rivers, and make the most of trade routes to amass wealth. In the desert, nomads are gathering with their caravans, seeking the best trading partners – only the most generous players will win their favour and increase the value of their settlements. But success also attracts danger. Barbarians land on the shores, threatening your settlements. Train your knights, defend your castle and repair the damage caused by the attackers.
Five scenarios, countless possibilities
‘Traders and Barbarians’ is a collection of scenarios and variations developed over a number of years by Catan’s creator,
Klaus Teuber, following the release of the
‘Cities and Knights’ expansion. Following great interest from players, he expanded his ideas into one of the richest expansions for Catan. In addition to five completely new scenarios, it also contains several rule variants, including the official two-player version of Catan. You can combine these variants with one another, as well as with the scenarios from this expansion, with the
‘Seafarers’ expansion, and, to some extent, with the
‘Cities & Knights’ and
‘Explorers & Pirates’ expansions.
Game Variants
- The Friendly Robber – reduces the impact of the robber at the start of the game and allows for a gentler introduction to the game.
- Events on Catan – instead of rolling dice, this uses an event system that ensures statistically balanced results whilst retaining an element of surprise.
- Port Master – adds greater strategic significance to ports and turns them into a key part of the game.
- Catan for Two – the official two-player version of the game, designed by Klaus Teuber.
Scenarios
Catan Fishermen
Set off on a fishing expedition and use your catch to gain numerous advantages. Fish can help you ward off raiders, obtain resources or even build a road for free.
The Rivers of Catan
Settlements along the rivers bring gold and new trading opportunities. Wealth opens up numerous possibilities, but only the richest player will be rewarded.
Caravan March
Nomadic caravans are travelling towards the cities of Catan. Through shrewd trading, you can win their favour and influence the direction of their journey.
Barbarian Invasion
Barbarians arrive on Catan, occupying the coastal regions and threatening the cities. Join forces, train your knights and defend the island against the invaders.
Traders and Barbarians
After defeating the barbarians, it is time to rebuild. Use carts to transport building materials between the quarry, the glassworks and the castle, whilst avoiding the remaining barbarians who still pose a threat to traffic.
