In Space Base, players take on the role of admirals of a small fleet of ships. The ships start out docked at their stations and are then deployed across the sectors. Use cargo ships for trade, mining ships to generate recurring base income and carriers to spread your influence. Establish new colonies in the sector to gain even more influence.Space Base is a dice game that is quick to learn and play and uses the basic "I roll, everyone gets something" mechanism seen in other games. It is also an engine-building game that uses a player board (your space base) and rows of ship cards you can buy and add to your board. The cards you buy, and the order in which you buy them, have interesting consequences for your engine. Players can take their engine in several directions: big odds and explosive payouts, a little luck and steady income, big end-game combos that start from last to first, or a mix-and-match approach. All in all, Space Base is a game you can start playing and teach anyone in the first round or two, and it has a satisfying mix of dice luck and challenging strategic decisions.
