Description
In 7 Wonders Duel you lead an ancient civilisation, construct buildings and wonders of the world, collect coins, strengthen your army and make scientific discoveries. The game uses the core rules of the popular 7 Wonders, but is adapted for a duel - every decision you make directly affects your opponent.
How to play 7 Wonders Duel
The game is played over three ages. At the start of each age you lay the cards out on the table, some face up and others face down. You take turns picking a card that is not covered by any other, then build it, discard it for coins or use it to construct a wonder. Resources you are missing can be bought from the bank - at a higher price if your opponent produces them.
There are three ways to win: by military supremacy, when you push the conflict pawn to your opponent's capital, by scientific supremacy, when you collect 6 different scientific symbols, or by having the most points after the third age.
Why you'll like it
- Almost every card you take reveals new ones - watch which cards your move opens up for your opponent.
- Three paths to victory: your opponent can suddenly win through military or science, so you have to keep an eye on them at all times.
- Only 7 of the 8 wonders can be built - one always remains unbuilt.
- Progress tokens and guilds in the final age bring new ways to score.
Who 7 Wonders Duel is for
The game is for 2 players aged 10 and up, and a game takes around 30 minutes. It is moderately easy - the rules are short, but the symbols on the cards take a while to learn. It is the right choice for couples and anyone who enjoys short but thoughtful duels. Those who dislike having their plans constantly thwarted by an opponent will enjoy it less. If Tolkien's world is closer to your heart, the shop also has The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth, which is based on this game.
