Barcelona

In the middle of the 19th century, Barcelona is the most densely populated city in all of Europe. After the old city walls were torn down, the pioneer of urban planning Ildefons Cerdà presented a plan to create the “Eixample”, the extension that Barcelona so desperately needed. Construction began in 1860.

In Barcelona you take on the role of 19th-century builders working on the city’s expansion. Your main goal is to construct buildings for residents who want to leave the old town. You will build streets, create tram lines and construct public institutions. You may even decide to explore “Modernisme”, a new architectural and artistic style that became popular among the wealthy.

Barcelona is played over a variable number of rounds, punctuated by three scoring phases before the final scoring. Each round, every player takes one turn consisting of two or more actions and a construction phase, and then prepares for their next turn. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
