Description
Life as a soap bubble isn't easy: small and brave, it tries to fly as far as it can, while the sky around it is full of kites, balloons and butterflies. In Bubbly one player is the bubble each round and all the others are the sky. The sky builds a path of cards together, while the bubble tries to stay in the air by choosing the right cards from their hand.
How to play Bubbly
The bubble gets 12 cards and each sky player gets 9. A sky player places three cards in a column, creating three heights. The bubble then plays one card into that column: with a card of the same colour it rises or stays at the same height, and with a card of any colour it drops one height. Then the sky adds a new column, the bubble plays its next card, and so on. The sky players may discuss their plans with each other.
The round ends when the bubble can't go any further or when it has played all 12 cards. You write down how many cards it played. Once everyone has been the bubble once, the player with the most cards played wins.
Why you'll like it
- Everyone gets a turn as the bubble and several turns as the sky, so you're always involved.
- As the sky, you discuss out loud with the others how to bring the bubble down.
- The bubble can also drop on purpose even when it has the right colour, and so mislead the sky.
- A round lasts just a few minutes, and the whole game about 15.
Who is Bubbly for
The game is for 2 to 4 players aged 6 and up and takes about 15 minutes. It is simple, so it suits families with younger children. There is no text on the cards, only colours and pictures of the sky.
What you might not like
The shuffle decides which cards you get, so it may not be the best fit for those who prefer games with more planning and less luck.
