Description
Do you know the children's game where you whisper a word from ear to ear and something completely different comes out at the end? Gluhi telefon is its drawing version, known around the world as Telestrations. Everyone gets a booklet and a marker, and as the booklets travel around the table, the words turn into ever stranger drawings and guesses.
How to play Gluhi telefon
Everyone picks a word from their card and secretly writes it in their booklet. Then they draw it, turn the page and pass the booklet to their neighbour. That player looks at the drawing, writes down what they think it shows and passes it on. The next player sees only that guess and draws it. Everyone passes their booklets at the same time until each one returns to its owner.
Then comes the best part: the big reveal. One by one, you flip through your booklets and show the others how your word changed from drawing to drawing. You can keep score, but you don't have to, as the game is mostly about laughing together.
Why you'll like it
- No drawing skills needed. It gets funny precisely when everyone understands a drawing in their own way.
- Everyone draws and guesses at the same time, so nobody waits for their turn.
- The booklet reveal is different every time and often the loudest part of the evening.
- The booklets are wipeable, so you can play again and again.
Who is Gluhi telefon for
The game is for 4 to 6 players aged 8 and up, and a round takes 15 to 20 minutes. It is very easy, and players like it best with six. It suits family gatherings, parties and groups that are just getting to know each other. Letters and numbers are not allowed in the drawings.
What might you not like?
The winner hardly matters in this game, so it may not suit those who prefer competitive games with more tactics.
