Description
Singing, dancing and reminiscing to music from several decades. Hitster is a music card game you can set up in an instant: open the box, scan a card and let the music do the rest. This edition also includes international, Slovenian and Croatian hits.
How to play Hitster
Each player or team starts with one face-up music card showing a year. If you like, you can add tokens, with everyone starting with two. Using the free Hitster app, the DJ scans the QR code on the top card and the song starts playing. The active player places the card face down on their timeline: before the existing cards, between them or after them. Then they flip it over. If the year is in the right place, they keep the card, otherwise it is discarded.
Tokens add extra spice to the game. Spend one to skip a song you don't know. When it is someone else's turn, you can call out “Hitster” and use a token to mark the spot where you think the song belongs. If you are the one who is right, you take the card. For three tokens you get a card without guessing. You earn a new token by naming the artist and the title of the song. The first to collect ten cards wins.
Why you'll love it
- You can explain the rules in a minute, and you can play individually or in teams.
- You don't need to know the exact year. It's enough to know whether a song is older or newer than the ones you already have.
- The more cards you have, the harder it is to hit the right spot, so the leader can't easily run away with the game.
- For a bigger challenge there are the Pro and Expert modes, where you also have to name the artist, the title or even the exact year. You can also play together against the game.
Who is Hitster for
The game is for 2 to 10 players aged 16 and up and takes about 30 minutes. The rules are simple, and players like it best with four to six. It is a great fit for parties, family gatherings and groups of different generations, where everyone knows the music of their own time.
You need a phone with an internet connection and the free Hitster and Spotify apps. Without a paid account you hear a shorter clip of each song. You can combine the game with other editions of Hitster.
What might you not like?
The game is loud and relaxed, and there is hardly any strategy in it, so it may not be the best fit for those who prefer calm strategy games.
