Description
On the board there is an empty grid, on its edge twelve exits, and in your hand a marker. In Railroad Ink Challenge: Shining Yellow you draw a network of railways and highways that should connect as many exits as possible. Everyone plays at the same time and with the same dice, yet the boards end up completely different. Railroad Ink Challenge is a standalone game that brings everything from the first Railroad Ink games and adds goals and special buildings.
How to play Railroad Ink Challenge: Shining Yellow
The game lasts seven rounds. At the start of a round the four route dice are rolled. You must draw all four routes on your board, each next to an exit or to a route already drawn. A railway and a highway may only meet at a station. Once per round you may add one of the special routes, but no more than three in the whole game.
Some spaces have special buildings: a factory duplicates one die, a village scores points, and universities give you a free special route. At the end of the round you show whether you have reached any of the goals. At the end, connected exits, the longest railway, the longest highway and the central spaces all score, while every open end of a route costs a point.
Why you will like it
- Everyone draws at the same time, so there is no waiting, whether you play alone or with four.
- Goals have to be reached before the others: whoever is late gets fewer points.
- Only three special routes in the whole game. When to use them is the hardest decision.
- The Desert and Canyon expansions add their own dice and new rules once you have mastered the base game.
Who is Railroad Ink Challenge: Shining Yellow for
The game is for 1 to 4 players aged 8 and up and takes 15 to 30 minutes. It is medium-light in complexity; players on BoardGameGeek recommend it most with two. There is no text on the board or the dice, and the rules are in English. It will appeal to those who like drawing and solving spatial puzzles, also on their own: the solo game has goals with a time limit. It is not for those who want players to get in each other's way during the game, as everyone draws on their own board.
If you have several boxes, you can also play with dice drafting, for which you need one box per player. Our shop also carries Railroad Ink: Blazing Red and Railroad Ink: Deep Blue Edition.
