Description
In the 19th century, as sea transport becomes ever more important, trading companies and navies urgently need new and more capable ships. In this game you step into the role of shipbuilders: you hire workers, acquire equipment, court the favour of the evaluation committees and rent the canal for your vessels' trial voyages.Players take turns, with a randomly chosen player starting and play continuing clockwise. On their turn, each player chooses one of the available actions on the action track, gaining key components for building their ship. On a later turn, they can move the chosen action card ahead of the others and choose a new action. When a player completes their ship (made up of smaller cards showing the bow, the stern and any number of middle sections for equipment or crew), they can send it on a trial voyage along the canal. On the trial, the player can earn points for speed, crew, equipment or safety. As players take turns, the sequence of action cards moves along the action track. When the first action card reaches the starting space again, the countdown marker moves down one space and play continues. The game ends when the countdown marker reaches the final space or the ship cards run out. Bonus points are awarded for fulfilled government contracts, and the winner is the player with the most points. The game takes about 30 minutes per player.
