Description
The cities of the ancient world did not build only for themselves. 7 Wonders: Edifice is an expansion for 7 Wonders that puts three shared projects on the table, one for each Age. While building your Wonder, you can join the construction of a grand building and secure your share of the reward. Or you can bet that others will do the work – but if the project fails, the penalty hits exactly those who did not help. The expansion also brings two new Wonders, Ur and Carthage.
How to play 7 Wonders: Edifice
The game follows the rules of the base game, and the goal stays the same: the most victory points after three Ages. At the start, you draw one random building card from each deck and place participation pawns on it – two when there are three of you, and five when seven are playing.
Once per Age, when you build a stage of your Wonder, you can also pay the project's cost at the same time and take a pawn from the card. When the last one is taken, the building is completed and everyone who took part immediately gains the reward. If at least one pawn is left on the card at the end of the Age, the construction fails. Anyone who did not take part pays the penalty, and anyone who cannot pay it in full takes a debt token with negative points instead.
Why you will love it
- Every Age gives you a new decision: pay more for a Wonder stage and take part, or risk the project failing without you.
- There are fewer pawns on the card than players, so it pays to be quick – but you can only take part together with building your Wonder.
- From fifteen building cards, only three are drawn at random each game, so the projects change from game to game.
- The Wonder Ur works only with this expansion, while Carthage offers a new way of building stages and can also be used in the base game.
Who is 7 Wonders: Edifice for
The expansion is for three to seven players aged 10 and up, and a game takes about 30 minutes. It is simple and changes the base game rules only slightly, so you can easily add it after just a few games. Players like it best with four or five. It suits everyone who loves 7 Wonders and wants more shared decisions at the table. This is the Slovenian edition with Slovenian rules, and you need the base game to play.
What you might not like
The expansion adds a few new decisions rather than a completely new way to play, so it may not be the best fit for those who expect lots of new rules and content from an expansion.
