Description
Something is stirring on Catan again. Catan Trgovci in barbari (Traders & Barbarians) is a collection of five scenarios and four rule variants that Klaus Teuber developed over several years. Each scenario adds its own story and a few new rules to Catan, while the variants can be added to any game.
How to play Catan Trgovci in barbari
The basic rules stay the same. You choose a scenario and set up the island according to its instructions:
- The Fishermen of Catan: you catch fish at the lake and along the coast. You trade them in for benefits, such as chasing away the robber, taking a resource or building a road for free.
- The Rivers of Catan: settlements and bridges along the rivers bring in gold. The richest player is rewarded.
- The Caravans: you vote with resources on which direction the caravan travels next.
- Barbarian Attack: barbarians occupy the coastal hexes. You drive them out with knights and score points for prisoners.
- Traders & Barbarians: you haul goods by wagon between the quarry, the glassworks and the castle, while the remaining barbarians make your journey harder.
There are four variants: The Friendly Robber, Events on Catan, Harbormaster and Catan for Two.
Why you will like it
- In Events on Catan, a deck of cards replaces the dice. The numbers come up more evenly, and each card also brings an event.
- Catan for Two is the official two-player variant. Two neutral players are also on the island, and every time you build for yourself, you also build for one of them.
- The Friendly Robber leaves players with only two points alone, so the start is gentler.
- Harbormaster rewards whoever builds the most at harbors with two points.
Who is Catan Trgovci in barbari for
The expansion is for 2 to 4 players aged 10 and up, and a game takes about 60 minutes. It is medium-light; players on BoardGameGeek recommend it most for four. It is meant for those who know the base Catan well and want a change without a big jump in complexity. The scenarios are meant to be played on their own, while the variants can be combined with each other and with the scenarios.
The variants and scenarios can also be combined with the Catan: Pomorci (Seafarers) expansion, and partly with the Catan - Mesta in vitezi (Cities & Knights) and Catan: Raziskovalci in gusarji (Explorers & Pirates) expansions. The expansion is not a standalone game: you need the Catan base game. This is the Slovenian edition with rules in Slovenian.
