Description
An unusual fairground has come to the small town of Derry. It is famous for its shows and attractions, but also for strange happenings - and for the mysterious disappearance of its former director. In Mysterium Park you are mediums summoned by the director's ghost. Together you must find out who committed the crime and where.
How to play Mysterium Park
One player is the ghost, everyone else is a medium. The ghost may not speak: it communicates only with vision cards, dreamlike illustrations without text. In the first round there are nine characters on the board, and each medium must find the one assigned to them by a secret plot card. The ghost gives them one or more cards, and the mediums discuss out loud what the pictures might mean before placing their pawns.
A medium who guesses correctly eliminates their character; one who doesn't receives new visions next turn. In the second round you eliminate locations the same way. You have only six turns in total for both rounds. If you succeed, three characters and three locations remain: the ghost points to the right pair with exactly two cards, and you get a single attempt. You win or lose together.
Why you'll love it
- The ghost wants to say everything, yet has only seven cards in hand - and none of them is quite right.
- The mediums can talk freely, but each decides alone where to place their own pawn.
- A witness is hidden among the cards: whoever picks it by mistake has to choose again.
- A game lasts half an hour, so you can quickly swap roles and play again.
Who is Mysterium Park for
The game is for 2 to 6 players aged 10 and up and lasts 30 to 45 minutes. It is easy to learn and cooperative, and players like it best with four. There is no text on the components. Families and groups who enjoy games full of illustrations and imagination, such as Dixit, will like it. It is a smaller, faster version of Mysterium.
What you might not like
The ghost stays silent the whole time and carries the most responsibility, so the role isn't for everyone. Because you win or lose together, the game may not suit those who prefer competitive games.
