Description
Dixit is a game where imagination is what counts. The cards show dreamlike, fairy-tale illustrations with no text, and each one can mean something different. Each round one of you is the storyteller, who gives a clue about their card – a word, a sentence, a line from a song or just a sound. The others try to guess which card is the storyteller's.
How to play Dixit
The storyteller chooses a card from their hand and gives a clue. Every other player secretly chooses the card from their own hand that fits the clue best and hands it to the storyteller. The storyteller shuffles the cards and lays them face up around the board. Then you all vote at the same time on which card is the storyteller's.
If everyone or no one finds the right card, the storyteller scores no points and the others score two each. Otherwise the storyteller and everyone who guessed correctly score three points. You get one more point for every vote your own card receives. The game ends when someone reaches 30 points.
Why you'll love it
- Finding the right clue is the charm of the game: clear enough for someone to guess it, but not so clear that everyone does.
- Even when you are not the storyteller, you play cleverly: a well-chosen card lures the others' votes.
- The illustrations are little works of art that give rise to stories and unexpected connections.
- Every reveal starts a conversation about what each person saw in the card, so the players get to know each other better.
Who is Dixit for
The game is for 3 to 8 players aged 8 and up, and a game lasts about 30 minutes. It is easy and shines most with five or six players, and the rules have a special variant for three. It is great for families and groups, for playing with children and adults together, and for those who are just getting into board games. If games without a clear strategy do not appeal to you, it may not be for you. There is no text on the cards, so language is not a barrier. In 2010 Dixit won the Spiel des Jahres award.
In our shop: the expansion Dixit: Quest with 84 new cards, and the standalone games Dixit Odyssey and Dixit: Disney Edition, whose cards you can mix with the base game.
