Description
The world has fallen apart, and the survivors fight over what little is left. In Radlands Complete you lead your group of survivors and defend three camps against a rival tribe. The most important resource is water: you spend it to play people and events and to use the abilities of cards you already have on the table. Both players draw from the same deck, so it comes down to who combines the cards better. This edition already includes the Cult of Chrome expansion.
How to play Radlands
At the start, each player gets six camp cards and chooses three. Every camp has its own ability and determines how many cards you start with in hand. On your turn, your event in the first space resolves first, and the others advance one space. Then you draw a card and take three water discs.
With water you play people in front of your camps, place events in the countdown queue and use card abilities. You can also discard a card from your hand to get its quick junk effect right away. A damaged card is turned sideways; if it is damaged a second time, it is destroyed. You win immediately when you destroy all three of your opponent's camps.
Why you will like it
- Every card can be used in two ways: play it to the table or discard it for a quick effect. You make that choice anew with each one.
- You only have three water discs each turn and unspent water is lost, so every disc counts.
- Events work like bombs on a countdown: they are powerful, but your opponent can see when they will go off.
- People protect the camp and the cards behind them. You may only hit an unprotected card, so it matters who you place in front.
- The box holds 66 different camps, 32 of them from the Cult of Chrome expansion. You play with three in each game, so every duel is different.
Who is Radlands for
Radlands is a game for 2 players only, suitable from age 14, and a game lasts 20 to 40 minutes. It is medium-light: the rules are short, and the depth comes as you get to know the cards and how they work together. The cards have ability text that both players need to understand. It will appeal to anyone who enjoys card duels and does not want to build a deck in advance. It is not for those who dislike direct attacks: here you destroy each other's people and camps all the time.
