Although coral reefs cover less than 1 % of the seabed, they are home to as many as 25 % of all marine species. Unfortunately, these vibrant underwater ecosystems are dying. Climate change and the resulting rise in sea temperature are destroying the colourful algae that give coral reefs their vivid colours, causing coral bleaching. In addition, the fragile reef ecosystem is also harmed by pollution in various forms and by overfishing.That is why scientists from various fields, together with researchers studying the ecological complexity and importance of coral reefs, have joined forces to tackle the many challenges these ecosystems face. Your task is to take command of a research ship and set out to preserve the coral reefs. Hire the best crew, clean up the ocean and restore the reefs to their former beauty.In the game, players take on the role of ocean researchers and rescuers. You will sail the seas, hire crew, explore coral reefs, clean up polluted areas and try to complete as many tasks as possible.On their turn, players can choose to RECHARGE ENERGY or TRAVEL. If they choose to RECHARGE, they receive rewards on the VP track. If they choose to TRAVEL, they can place coral balls, move their ship, play task cards and take various actions. The game lasts a variable number of rounds, and the end of the game is triggered when a player reaches 45 VP. After an extra round comes final scoring, and the winner is the player with the most points.
