Description
The Warring States period was a key period in Chinese history, marked by constant warfare, important bureaucratic and military reforms and the consolidation of power among rival states. The game is set around 260 BC, a time when the seven Warring Kingdoms were in fierce conflict, both with each other and against nomadic groups such as the Xiongnu, who posed a threat from the north. Although parts of the Great Wall of China had already been built in the 8th century BC, numerous defensive construction projects appeared in the later years of the Warring States period. Before Qin finally unified the kingdoms, extensive fortifications, watchtowers and new sections of wall were built to strengthen the defences. In Tianxia, players take on the role of leaders of noble families seeking to earn the prestige and favour of the powerful rulers who govern the seven Warring Kingdoms. The game lasts four rounds in which you place governors in the regions and strengthen the power of rival ruling houses, thereby winning their favour. You sell goods to merchant ships sailing along the Chinese coast to gain wealth and other benefits. Still, you must not forget the nomad warriors, who pose a constant threat on the northern borders of the seven kingdoms. You must therefore train soldiers and build walls and towers to weaken the invaders and protect your interests, earning prestige along the way. Each round, the nomads advance towards the borders of the seven kingdoms and grow in strength. When they reach the border, a battle begins that affects all players. At the end of the game, the player who was the best governor, politician, merchant and protector wins.
