Description
Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, the Minotaur in the labyrinth, a wizard with a potion … The nine cubes of Rory's Story Cubes: Fantasia show pictures from fairy tales, the Middle Ages and Greek myths. Each cube has six pictures, 54 in all: from a fairy and a troll to Medusa and the Trojan horse. Roll them and tell your own fairy tale, where anything can happen.
How to play Rory's Story Cubes: Fantasia
Players take turns as the storyteller. The storyteller rolls all nine cubes and begins with “Once upon a time …”. The story has to link all nine pictures: three cubes for the beginning, three for the middle and three for the end. You can start with the picture that grabs your attention first. There is only one rule: there are no wrong answers.
The rules suggest one more use: the cubes quickly give you characters and events for your favourite fantasy role-playing game.
Why you'll love it
- The pictures look like they come from a book of fairy tales: dragons, fairies, wizards, castles with drawbridges and Greek gods.
- There are no wrong answers – everyone reads the same picture their own way, so every story is different.
- If you play fantasy role-playing games, the cubes give you new characters and events in an instant.
- You can play the cubes on their own or mix them with other Rory's Story Cubes sets.
Other sets in our shop: Rory's Story Cubes: Classic, Rory's Story Cubes: Actions and Rory's Story Cubes: Voyages.
Who is Rory's Story Cubes: Fantasia for?
You can play it on your own or in a group of up to twelve players, it is suitable from age 6, and a game takes about 20 minutes. Players like it best with three or four. The game is very easy, and there is no text on the cubes, only pictures, so language is no barrier. The Slovenian edition comes with Slovenian rules.
What you might not like
The game has no points and no winner, so it may not suit those who prefer competition. Some pictures come from Greek myths, such as Charon in his boat or the Cyclops Polyphemus, so younger children may not recognise them straight away.
