Description
Someone is dancing, someone is digging a hole, someone is stealing or hiding … The nine cubes of Rory's Story Cubes: Actions don't show objects and places, but actions. Each cube has six pictures of little figures doing something, 54 different ones in all: from dancing and climbing to laughing and crying. You weave them into a story where something is always happening.
How to play Rory's Story Cubes: Actions
Players take turns as the storyteller. The storyteller rolls all nine cubes and begins with “Once upon a time …”. The story has to link all nine pictures: three cubes for the beginning, three for the middle and three for the end. There is only one rule: there are no wrong answers.
The rules suggest two more ways to play. In My Hero, you create a hero with three cubes, then tell their story with all nine. In Epic Stories, each player adds a chapter, and the last player brings the story to its conclusion.
Why you'll love it
- The pictures are actions: every cube tells you what the hero does, so the story keeps moving forward.
- There are no wrong answers – everyone reads the same picture their own way, so every story is different.
- In Epic Stories you all build one story together and wait eagerly to see what the hero will do in the next chapter.
- You can play the cubes on their own or mix them with other sets, just as the rules suggest.
Other sets in our shop: Rory's Story Cubes: Classic, Rory's Story Cubes: Voyages and Rory's Story Cubes: Fantasia.
Who is Rory's Story Cubes: Actions for?
You can play it on your own or in a group of up to twelve players, it is suitable from age 6, and a game takes about 20 minutes. Players like it best with three or four. The game is very easy, and there is no text on the cubes, only pictures, so language is no barrier. The Slovenian edition comes with Slovenian rules.
What you might not like
The game has no points and no winner, so it may not suit those who prefer competition. The action pictures are simple drawings of little figures, so some need a closer look at first.
