Description
In Habitats, each player builds a large wildlife park without cages or fences. The animals in your park need their natural environments: grassland, shrubland, rocks or lakes. A zebra, for example, needs a large area of grass and some water next to it, while a bat needs rocks, shrubs and water, a deer needs shrubs and grass, and a crocodile mainly needs water. There's also a snake, baboon, bee, elephant, otter, lizard, tortoise, eagle, meerkat, scorpion, pig, catfish, rhino and more, each with its own landscape requirements – 68 different animals in total. Each player starts their park with an entrance tile, and each is represented by their own figure in the animal tile market. On their turn, a player takes the tile to their left, right or in front; moves their figure to the space just vacated; then draws a tile into the space where their figure started the turn. When you add an animal tile to your park, you also add its main landscape – the animal's basic space. As you place this new animal, its piece of landscape can help fulfil the requirements of other animals, e.g. the water on a hippo tile satisfies a neighbouring otter's need for water. So fulfilling every animal's wishes for land becomes an increasingly tricky task with every tile you add.Besides expanding your park with different types of landscape, plants and animals, you can increase its profitability by building additional entrance roads, hiking points and observation towers.Habitats lasts three seasons, with each season giving a player 6–9 new tiles for their park. Whoever best achieves the season's goal receives bonus points, with fewer points for second and third place. At the end of the game, each player scores points for every tile in their park depending on whether that tile's requirements are met. Whoever scores the most points wins!
